Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited was established in December 1971 and operates under the umbrella of the SPIC (Southern Petro Industries Corporation) Corporate Group. TAC specializes in producing various grades of soda ash and ammonium chloride (fertilizer grade). These production facilities were established using the Toyo Soda dual process in collaboration with Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Japan. Furthermore, the company manufactures a variety of pesticide formulations, with the current plant capable of producing 1.5 million liters of pesticide formulations. TAC's manufacturing facility is located in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The Technical Grade Ammonium Chloride Plant, with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes, commenced operations in October 2000.
In 2005-06, the company merged with Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Limited (SPIC), effective April 1, 2005. Subsequently, the production of Ammonium Bicarbonate commenced in 2006.
