Production commenced in 1984, specializing in metal packaging. Shetron is recognized as a global supplier of food cans and ends, prioritizing food safety and process efficiency for its customers. Its product range includes containers for fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, sweets, and savories, as well as packaging for paints and chemicals. Over time, the company expanded its offerings to include twist-off caps, penny lever ends (RLT), shaped cans, and conipails. Shetron operates from two facilities located in Bangalore and Mumbai.
SL manufactures various products such as battery cell jackets and components, printed metal sheets, cans, and can components. In August 1993, the company conducted a public issue at a premium of Rs 30, raising Rs 9.22 crore to partially finance the establishment of manufacturing facilities for open-top sanitary cans in Bangalore, Karnataka, with a capacity of 4800 metric tons per annum. The project's total cost, appraised by IDBI, amounted to Rs 20.48 crore. During the fiscal year 1993-94, SL secured a contract to import advanced technology for the production of dry battery cell jackets and components.
In 2006-07, a joint venture was established between Shetron Ltd and Metropak A/s, Denmark, on a 50:50 basis for the manufacture of SAF KAPS, with commercial operations commencing in April 2007. Metropak A/S was subsequently acquired by Glud & Marstrand A/S, Denmark, the largest producer of metal packaging in Scandinavia. Additionally, the company ventured into industrial packaging for non-agro products in 2022.
