In February 1992, R K Jajoo and K L Puri, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), established Saptarishi Agro Industries Ltd, marking a significant milestone as India's pioneering company dedicated to the manufacturing of Button Mushrooms, boasting a capacity of 3000 tonnes per annum (TPA). The production process utilizes agricultural waste resources. The company has secured financial, technical, and marketing partnerships with Dalcem Veciap Agro Industries in Holland, alongside a 100% buy-back agreement with the collaborator. In 1993, Saptarishi Agro Industries Ltd initiated a public issue to partially fund the establishment of an Export Oriented Unit (EOU) in Madurantakam, Tamil Nadu. Commercial production commenced in June 1994.
