In 1987, the company commissioned a plant to manufacture Polypropylene Multi-Filament Yarn (PPMFY) in technical collaboration with Core Engineering, Switzerland, with an initial capacity of 1000 tpa. This capacity was later increased to 2750 tpa in 1991 through collaboration with Scam Engineering and STP Impianti, Italy. The PPMFY produced by the company is texturized into crimped yarn suitable for industrial applications such as filter fabrics, soft luggage fabrics, narrow-width fabrics (tapes and straps), and sewing threads.
RSPL recently established a new company, Poddar Pigments, to manufacture pigment-based polypropylene master batches as an import substitute. It was also expanding its capacity for polypropylene partially oriented yarn (PPPOY) and setting up facilities for manufacturing micro-denier polyester filament yarn (MDPFY).
In 1995-96, the company increased its installed capacity of polyester filament yarn by 4500 tpa, earning foreign exchange worth Rs 98 lac during the year.
During 1996-97, production in three lines supplied by NOY vallsina for polyester yarn were still under trial run and in the process of stabilization. In the same period, the company earned a foreign exchange worth Rs. 1.21 cr.
Declared 'Sick' by the Board for Industrial & Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) on 21.3.2001, the company's Rehabilitation Schemes submitted were not accepted by the Secured Creditors. Consequently, they took over and sold the company's assets during the year 2008-09. Prior to this, the company was involved in manufacturing and processing fabrics/yarn. However, since 2008-09, the company has been engaged in the business of C&F Agency and Transportation.
