Initially established on August 2, 1946, under the name The Investment Trust of India Limited (ITI), the company underwent a name change to HFCL Infotel Limited on May 12, 2003. This alteration followed a Scheme of amalgamation sanctioned by the Hon'ble High Courts of Punjab and Haryana in Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu in Chennai on March 6 and March 20, 2003, respectively. The scheme involved the merger of the former HFCL Infotel Limited (transferor Company) with Quadrant Televentures Limited, effective from September 1, 2002. Pursuant to this scheme, the company's existing hire purchase, leasing, and securities trading business were transferred to its wholly owned subsidiary, Rajam Finance & Investments Company (India) Limited, effective from September 1, 2002. Subsequently, Rajam Finance was renamed The Investment Trust of India Limited on June 17, 2003. However, it ceased to be the company's subsidiary as of September 30, 2003, due to the allotment of fresh equity to other investors.
Quadrant Televentures Limited's business portfolio includes ventures in sugar, petrochemicals, industrial alcohol, etc. It owns two subsidiaries: ITI Pioneer AMC and ITI Capital Markets. ITI Pioneer AMC, which promoted Kothari Pioneer Mutual Fund, ceased to be a subsidiary during 1995-96. In 1997-98, the company sold its holding in ITI Capital Market Ltd to Kothari Pioneer AMC Ltd.
The company initiated its operations as a fixed-line service provider under the brand name 'CONNECT' in October 2000. Apart from the UASL License, the company also holds ISP License Category-A (Pan India) and IP-1 License for infrastructure provision in the Punjab Telecom Circle.
In 2003-04, the company launched its Prepaid Mobile product and introduced a range of innovative value-added services and data products in May 2004, including DSL-high speed Internet. It became the first service provider to offer DSL services in Punjab and Chandigarh. By 2004-05, the company expanded its services to 125 cities/towns with 2.47 lakh subscribers in Punjab.
With plans to venture into Video and Cable TV Services and triple play services, Quadrant Televentures Limited established a wholly owned subsidiary, Connect Broadband Services Limited, in July 2004. The subsidiary commercially commenced its operations in October 2005. Additionally, in September 2007, the company expanded its CDMA mobile services under the brand name 'PING' to key cities/towns in Punjab. Furthermore, it entered into a share purchase agreement in March 2008 with M/s. Digicable Networks (India) Private Limited for the sale of shares of CBSL Cable Networks Limited, with the transfer completed in April 2008.
For the purpose of creating telecom infrastructure and related trading activities, the company formed a subsidiary named 'Infotel Tower Infrastructure Private Limited'. In 2009-10, Quadrant Televentures Limited acquired the entire equity stake of Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL) from its erstwhile promoters, making HFCL a subsidiary. During the same period, the company also acquired the beneficial interest in its subsidiary, Infotel Tower Infrastructure Private Limited, thus making it a wholly owned subsidiary.
