Founded in 1994, Prima Industries Ltd operates a complex facility in Kanjikode, Palakkad, encompassing three primary production divisions: Solvent Extraction, Oil Refining, and Animal Feed. Currently, its operations focus on manufacturing Compounded Cattle Feed and Solvent Extraction of Vegetable Oils, with capabilities to process diverse oil cakes and oil-bearing materials like rice bran and various seeds, including mustard, cottonseed, rapeseed, and sunflower cake.
In September 1995, the company initiated a public offering to partially fund the solvent extraction and edible oil refining project in Kanjikode, Kerala, with capacities of 300 tons per day (tpd) and 30 tpd, respectively. The solvent extraction plant commenced commercial production in August 1996, while the edible oil refinery's second phase is underway.
Diversifying its raw material sources to include rice bran, sunflower cake, and groundnut cake, the company also secured a partnership with Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) for processing their supplied raw materials. Test marketing in 1999-2000 under the umbrella branding strategy 'Prima Brand' yielded positive market responses.
In 2014-15, the Animal Feed Division upgraded its old plant to a fully automated facility capable of producing hygienically prepared and packaged cattle feed in pellet form. With a daily production capacity of 250 metric tons, this unit now manufactures a range of animal feeds, utilizing modern technology and advanced formulations tailored to meet the nutritional needs of cattle, poultry, and goats. Presently, it supplies animal feed to Kerala Feed Ltd.
