Established in December 1974, National Oxygen Limited (NOL) was founded by G N Saraf and is dedicated to the manufacturing of Industrial Gases. Initially, from 1975 to 1980, the company primarily focused on trading industrial/medical gases. However, in 1980, NOL took a significant step by installing and launching its first oxygen plant with a capacity of 63 cubic meters per hour in Mathur, located in the Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, in 1981, it expanded its operations by adding a dissolved acetylene plant at the same location, financed partly through a term loan from SIPCOT. The following year, another milestone was achieved with the commissioning of a second oxygen plant at the same premises, with additional term loan assistance from SIPCOT.
Furthering its capabilities, in 1985, NOL installed a new plant dedicated to compressing waste nitrogen into commercial grade nitrogen. During this period of expansion, the company made its debut in the public domain in order to raise funds for setting up a 165-cubic-meter per hour capacity plant in Pondicherry. This expansion project commenced production in September 1987.
Continuing its growth trajectory, in July 1994, NOL initiated a rights issue to fund the establishment of a liquid oxygen / liquid nitrogen / liquid argon tonnage plant with a capacity of 75 metric tons per day. By 1995-96, the company successfully completed its expansion project.
