Originally established on December 16, 1961, under the name Kovilpatti Lakshmi Roller Flour Mills Pvt Ltd, the company primarily focused on wheat product manufacturing. Over time, they diversified into textiles, engineering, and wind energy for captive power generation.
In 1964, the company inaugurated a wheat roller flourmill in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, with a capacity of 2,000 tons per month, operating under the brand name 'Kuthuvilakku'. By 1978, they expanded the milling capacity to 5,000 tons per month and ventured into sheet metal fabrication for textile machinery.
Further diversification occurred in 1982 when a cotton textile-spinning mill was established with 12,000 spindles. The company transitioned to a public limited company in May 1982, renaming itself Kovilpatti Lakshmi Roller Flour Mills Ltd.
Expansion continued with the commissioning of a second textile mill in 1988 and the installation of windmills for power generation in 1994-95. In 2000, another windmill project commenced in Tirunelveli district.
Throughout the years, KLRF Ltd expanded its flour mill capacity, added power generation capacity, and enhanced infrastructure, including storage facilities and wheat conveying equipment. Subsidiary amalgamations and name changes further marked their evolution, with the company officially becoming KLRF Ltd in 2008.
Continual growth was evident as production capacities and equipment numbers increased, reflecting KLRF Ltd's ongoing commitment to expansion and diversification.
