JECL, established in May 1907, engages in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, representing various American, British, and European manufacturers. Its primary focus areas include material handling and engineered products. Notably, in 1990-91, JECL provided a painting plant for marine containers and introduced a new model of the Pygmy hydraulic pallet truck. It also successfully launched new diesel forklift trucks with advanced technology. Efforts are underway to expand the company's market internationally.
Additionally, JECL formed a joint venture, Haden Josts Engineering India Pvt Ltd, with Haden Drysys International, UK. In response to challenges faced by Kerry Jost Engineering Ltd (KJEL) in 1999-2000, JECL, a shareholder (35%), diversified into software activities focusing on engineering solutions. It also established a storage cum service center near Mumbai in 2005, implementing a Performance Management System and ERP - SAP during the same period.
Further organizational restructuring occurred in 2006-07, dividing JECL into three core divisions: Material Handling, Industrial Finishing, and Engineered Products. Expansion into Nano Technology and Analytical Instrumentation happened in 2009, alongside growth in the Electrical product line and the introduction of an Electric Fork Lift Truck. Indigenous Reach Trucks were introduced in 2014, and a wholly-owned subsidiary was established in Ajman Free Trade Zone, UAE in 2015.
Post the 2016-17 financial year, JECL acquired 60% equity shares of MHE Rentals Private Limited, making it a subsidiary. In 2018, it launched the Jost's Made Diesel Forklift and expanded its product range with Aerial Work Platforms and Order Pickers in 2019, followed by the introduction of Rack Clad Warehouses in 2022. Notably, JECL also established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Jost's Engineering Inc., outside India, effective from June 28, 2022.
