Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, established on December 23, 1940, in Bangalore by Shri Walchand Hirachand, is a company engaged in the manufacturing, repair, and maintenance of helicopters and aircraft. In January 1951, the Ministry of Defence assumed administrative control of the company. Under the guidance of Dr. V.M. Ghatge, the HT-2 Trainer aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight in 1951, which was designed and constructed by HAL.
In 2018, HAL was listed on the BSE and NSE after an IPO. The company has a diverse customer base, including defense, civil, and export sectors.
