Goodyear India Ltd, originally established as Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company (India), adopted its current name in 1961 upon transitioning into a publicly traded entity. Operating under the regulations of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA), with Goodyear Tire and Rubber, US, holding a 74% stake, the company manufactures tires and rubber products for the automotive industry at its facility in Ballabgarh, Uttar Pradesh. In 1982, it entered into a technical collaboration with Andrew Yule and Company for fan-belts and vee-belts, featuring a 50% buy-back arrangement. Production of scooter and motorcycle tires ceased in April 1986. Subsequently, in 1993, a joint venture named South Asia Tyres was established with RPG-Ceat to domestically produce steel radial passenger tires, truck tires, and bias earthmover tires, previously imported. The company's product portfolio encompasses various offerings such as ultra-large earthmover tires, passenger radial tires, commercial truck tires, farm tires, and automotive tires under the Goodyear brand. Over the years, Goodyear India underwent modernization and expansion initiatives to enhance productivity, receiving ISO 9002 certification from the National Quality Assurance, UK, in 1994. Notably, prominent organizations like BEML and Coal India procure their earthmover tires from Goodyear. In 1999, the company introduced India's first 13-inch tubeless and tube-type H-rated tires, the Eagle NCT3, catering to mid-size cars. Additionally, it launched new products targeting the truck and light truck segments, incorporating advanced computer modeling techniques to minimize tread wear. Expanding its market presence, Goodyear India ventured into new territories in Asia. In 2005, it successfully launched the 'Sampurna' rear farm tire, receiving positive market reception. Continuing its expansion, the company ventured into tire retailing in 2006, establishing stores across multiple Indian cities and planning further nationwide expansion. In July 2007, Goodyear India divested its Engineered Products business for $1.475 billion. Innovative products like the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric and Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season tires were introduced in 2007, followed by the Assurance line for the passenger car segment in March 2008. The Farm Tire Development Centre at the Ballabgarh Plant became fully operational in 2009, launching products like 'Vajra Super' for the farm sector and 'DuraPlus' tires. Subsequent years saw the introduction of 'Ducaro Hi Miler' for Indian fleets and value-conscious small car owners, radial farm tires in 2011, and 'Goodrock' for industrial applications in 2017. Further innovations included 'Sampurna +' for the value segment of farm and haulage applications, and expansion of the FT 195 3 RIB range to meet consumer demand in the front farm tire segment.
