Originally promoted by Mahindra & Mahindra in collaboration with Dr Beck & Company, Germany, Elantas Beck India Limited went public in 1961. Over the years, the company has expanded its product portfolio to include wire enamels, varnishes, epoxy, and unsaturated polyester resins, catering to various sectors such as private enterprises, government entities, and PSUs including defense, railways, telecommunications, and heavy electricals.
In 1998, Schenectady International Inc., USA, acquired a controlling interest in the company from BASF, Germany, which previously held a 51% stake. The company subsequently obtained permission from the Government of India and RBI for this acquisition. As a result, the name of the company was changed to Schenectady-Beck India Ltd.
With a focus on specialty chemicals, the company continued to evolve. In 2003, it changed its name to Beck India Ltd. Following the sale of Altana AG's pharmaceutical business to Nycomed of Denmark in 2006, the company underwent another name change to ELANTAS Beck India Ltd.
Throughout its history, the company has undertaken various expansions and acquisitions to enhance its product offerings and capacities. In 2009, it acquired the Casting & Potting Compounds Business of Shimo Resins Pvt. Ltd., broadening its scope in epoxy and polyurethane systems. Further expansions and enhancements were made in subsequent years, including capacity expansions in wire enamels, installation of storage tanks, and acquisition of technical know-how related to wire enamel business in 2019 from Hubergroup India Private Limited.
