Incorporated as Bhartiya Galecha Industries Pvt Ltd, Bhartiya International Ltd (BIL) assumed its current name on 9 Jul.'93 and transitioned into a public limited company on 18 Jan.'94. Initially focused on carpet exports, BIL later diversified into the production and export of high-fashion leather garments. The company is primarily involved in manufacturing and trading leather and textile products, sourcing carpets from key production areas such as the Mirzapur/Varanasi belt in UP, Amritsar, and Jaipur. Leather garments are crafted at in-house facilities and dedicated fabrication units, including a modern facility in Bangalore equipped with machinery imported from Singer Nikko Company, Japan. A public share issue in Oct.'94 helped finance this expansion. BIL has partnered with Emerald Leather Overseas and Mathi Leather Tanneries for finished leather procurement and plans to establish a tannery to enhance value-added production. The company also intends to venture into the leather shoes sector. Renowned for its high-quality designer leather apparel, BIL has received accolades such as the 'National Export Award' from the President of India and recognition from the Council for Leather Exports. Expanding its presence in the fashion industry, BIL aims to introduce new products in global fashion hubs. Branches in Italy market high-end garments under the label 'Monks Italia' and serve private label customers worldwide. Over the years, BIL expanded its business by venturing into finished leather, establishing subsidiaries like Bhartiya International SEZ Limited, acquiring companies such as Design Industry Limited in Hong Kong, and forming new subsidiaries like Bhartiya Urban Infrastructure Limited and Design Industry China Limited. Additionally, the merger of Bhartiya Urban Infrastructure & Land Development Co. Pvt. Ltd. with Bhartiya City Developers Pvt. Ltd. in 2017-18 reshaped the company's structure.
