Pioneering several advancements in its field, APT Packaging Limited was the first company in the nation to introduce cutting-edge bulk-loading systems at the open-cast mines of Northern Coalfields. Additionally, it holds the distinction of being the inaugural private sector entity to supply bulk explosives to Coal India. Notably, the company holds the distinction of being the first in India to produce multi-layer co-extruded tubes utilized in dental and healthcare product packaging, located in Chitegaon, Maharashtra. Recognizing its commitment to research and development, APT Packaging Limited was honored with the NRDC award for its innovation in developing the ANFO master machine for the preparation of emulsified ANFO bulk explosives.
Expanding its horizons, APT Packaging Limited ventured into the production of waterproofing compounds through a technical collaboration with Atomised Materials, US, at Nandrabad near Aurangabad. Furthermore, it diversified into manufacturing co-extruded plastic tubes with an annual capacity of 75 million tubes. A subsidiary of the company, Navneet Machine Manufacturing Company, complements its operations.
Facing financial challenges, APT Packaging Limited was referred to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in 1999 due to losses surpassing its net worth. Operations at the Waidhan and Jharsuguda plants were suspended due to pending decisions on price fixation against Coal India Ltd.
The company underwent a significant transformation in 2008, changing its name to Apt Packaging Limited from Anil Chemicals & Industries Ltd. As part of the demerger process in 2009, divisions within the Aurangabad territory were retained, while others were transferred to Machhar Infrastructure Limited. To facilitate the demerger mandated by the BIFR, shareholders received shares in both entities.
On March 24, 2010, the Laksar Plant near Haridwar commenced commercial production, marking another milestone in the company's journey.
