New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on Monday the plea of ​​a 14-year-old alleged rape victim seeking termination of her 28-week pregnancy.

According to the apex court website, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala will hear the matter first on Monday.

On April 19, the apex court had ordered her medical examination on her mother's petition challenging the Bombay High Court's decision to refuse permission to terminate the pregnancy due to the advanced stage. Was.

It had sought a report from Mumbai's Sion Hospital about the possible physical and psychological condition of the girl if she undergoes a medical abortion or pregnancy termination or if she is advised not to do so.

The bench had directed the medical superintendent of the hospital to constitute a medical board and present its report before the court on April 22, the next date of hearing.

The lawyer appearing in the court on behalf of the petitioner said that the minor is 28 weeks pregnant and is currently in Mumbai.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati represented the government in the case.

Under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, the upper limit for termination of pregnancy is 24 weeks for married women as well as special categories of women, including rape victims, and other vulnerable women, such as the disabled and minors.
