Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the country is punishing the Congress for its sins and the party which once won 400 seats is unable to contest 300 seats in this Lok Sabha election.

"Half of Rajasthan has punished the Congress in the first phase of voting," Modi said at an election rally in Jalore district. Rajasthan, full of patriotism, knows that Congress can never make India strong.

He said that the country does not want the situation to return before 2011.

"Congress has hollowed out the country by spreading the termite of nepotism and corruption. And today the country is angry with Congress and is punishing me for these sins."

He said, "The Congress party itself is to blame for its current situation... The party which once won 400 seats is unable to contest 300 seats on its own."

Modi was addressing a public meeting in support of BJP candidate Lumbaram Chaudhary in Bhinmal in Jalore district.

There are 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan. The first phase of voting for 1 seats was held on April 19 and the second phase of voting for the remaining 13 seats will be held on April 26.
