Bhopal: The opposition India faction on Saturday said it will support one of the candidates contesting from Madhya Pradesh's Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat, a day after Samajwadi Party's Mir Yadav's nomination form was rejected.
This seat was given by Congress to SP as part of its Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance agreement. BJP has fielded its state president Vishnu Dutt Sharma.
A Congress leader said, "We will support one of the candidates against the BJP. We will teach the BJP a lesson." A meeting of the India Block was held during the day to chalk out a strategy against the ruling party.
Meanwhile, leaders of Congress, SP and other Indian constituents criticized the returning officer, who is also the Panna collector.
On Friday, he was not at his seat for three hours while waiting for the SP candidate. Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari said that Meira Yadav was present in the collector's office since 12 noon, but she did not reach. He also called the collector several times but in vain,” the Congress leader alleged.
Supporting the claim, MP Samajwadi Party chief Manoj Yadav criticized the BJP for the development.
The nomination form of the SP candidate was rejected by the returning officer on Friday as she had failed to sign at one place and had also submitted a copy of the old voter list.
