LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has ordered an inquiry by his medical team into the handling of young fast bowler Ehsanullah, who is yet to recover from an elbow injury sustained last year.
The PCB announced on Sunday that an independent panel of medical experts would analyze whether Ehsanullah's medical case was properly handled by the PCB's medical support staff.
The independent panel includes notable names of medical professionals including Professor Dr Javed Akram, Professor Dr Rana Dilawiz and Professor Dr Mumrai Naqshbandi.
The Board will recommend future action for appropriate treatment after investigation.
A reliable source in the board said that Naqvi was very concerned about this particular case after Ehsanullah was sent to London to see a specialist for his elbow injury. He indicated that the bowler may require another surgery to fully recover from the injury he suffered from last year.
Ehsanullah emerged as a promising prospect for Pakistan in the Pakistan Super League last year. He also played a few T20 Internationals and ODIs for his country but then suffered an elbow injury.
He was put under treatment by the PCB's Medical and Health Sciences Support Panel, which first tried to treat him through rehabilitation and then recommended surgery which was performed at a hospital in Lahore.
Unfortunately, even after surgery, Ehsanullah could not recover from the injury and was forced to miss this year's PSL for Multan Sultans, after which he sought permission from the PCB to seek another opinion in London.Interestingly, after the uproar over why Ehsanullah was taking so long to fully recover, PC medical panel chief Dr Sohail Saleem defended the diagnosis and treatment of the Faas bowler.
He stressed that it takes several months for an athlete to recover from an elbow injury. But apparently the PCB Chairman has a different view on this matter. or atk
