Rewa: A six-year-old boy who fell into an open borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district was found on Sunday after a 40-hour rescue operation, but he was unresponsive and efforts were on to pull him out. An officer gave this information.

Rescue teams were supplying oxygen to the 70 feet deep borewell and parallel pits were dug in efforts to reach it.

The child fell into an open borewell at around 3 pm on Friday afternoon in Manika village, located near the Uttar Pradesh border, when he was playing near the borewell. Officials had earlier said that he was trapped at a depth of about 40 feet.

"The boy has been traced and efforts are being made to pull him out of the borewell. He is not responding," Rewa Collector Pratibha Pal said over phone on Sunday.

Teams from the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local administration were at the spot and were making every possible effort to pull the boy out of the borewell.

MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said he was monitoring the situation and was in constant touch with local officials.

An official had earlier said that about 35 feet wide pits were dug on both sides of the borewell, through which rescue teams were trying to pull out the boy.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Sonkar had earlier said that oxygen was being supplied to the boy through a pipe.

He said that an NDRF team has been called from Varanasi in UP and the rescue operation has been affected due to unseasonal rains.
