MUMBAI: Central Railway on Friday said it has identified 24 sensitive flood-prone locations on its suburban network and pumps will be provided in these areas to clear water from the tracks.

The Railways will provide 161 pumps, while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will deploy 31 pumps on its network to ensure uninterrupted operations and safety of passengers, an official said.

This year, the capacity of the pumps has been increased from 12.5 HP to 100 HP, he said.

According to a release issued by Central Railway, Masjid, Mazagon Yard, Byculla Chinchpokli, Curry Road, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, Kurla, Vikhroli Kanjurmarg, Bhandup and Mulund are some of the sensitive spots on the main line.

Sewri, Wadala, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Chunabhatti and Tilak Nagar stations on the Harbor Line are also vulnerable to floods, it said.

The suburban network of Central Railway includes the main line from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Kasara and Khopoli, the Harbor Line from CSMT to Goregaon and Panvel, the Trans-Harbour Line between Thane-Vashi-Panvel and the line between Belapur-Seawood. Is included. -Uran.

Micro-tunneling work at three locations in Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg Kanjurmarg and Sion is in progress and 92 culverts on the suburban network have been cleared, the release said.

It said that cutting and pruning work of 156 trees has been completed.

The release said that Central Railway will maintain close contact with the disaster management cell of the Meteorological Department and the staff deployed in flood prone areas for continuous monitoring and continuous updates.

It said the CR has also targeted to desilt and clean 119.82 km of drains on the suburban network.
