An unidentified man was found dead with head injuries near a public toilet in Nerul area of Thane, Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday.
Senior Inspector Tanaji Bhagat said that a passerby saw the body of a man aged around 40 in the early hours of Saturday.
He said the police sent the body, which had head injuries, to the government hospital for post-mortem.
The officer said a first information report has been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the victim.
