Katihar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Lalu Prasad-led RJD has joined hands with the Congress, which for years had opposed the Mandal Commission recommendations to provide reservation to backward communities.

Addressing an election rally for JDU candidate Dula Chandra Goswami in Katihar, Bihar, he claimed that PM Narendra Modi ended the politics of nepotism, casteism and appeasement and worked for the development of every section of the society.

He said, "The Congress party has always insulted the backward classes. The Congress opposed the Mandal Commission report for many years. Now, Lalu Prasad's RJ has joined hands with the Congress."

He said, "But, PM Modi gave respect to lakhs of people from backward classes."

Shah said that people should remember while voting for Congress and RJD that they should be prepared for communal riots.

He said, "Whereas voting for NDA's double engine government means development."

Kishanganj, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Banka Lok Sabha constituencies of the state as well as Katihar will go to polls in the second phase on April 26.
