The performance of the missile and weapon during the test was "remarkable", the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement on Sunday.

The MPATGM weapon system has been indigenously designed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It has been field-evaluated in various flight configurations several times with the intention of proving the technology with high superiority. The system consisted of the MPATGM launcher, target acquisition system and fire control unit.

A sufficient number of missile firing trials have been successfully conducted towards achieving compliance with the full operational envelope prescribed in the General Staff Qualitative Requirements (Infantry, Indian Army), a Defense Ministry official said on Saturday.

Penetration testing of the MPATGM's tandem warhead system has been completed and it has been found capable of defeating modern armour-protected main battle tanks, an official said.

The officer further said that the ATGM system is equipped with day, night and top attack capability. The dual mode seeker functionality is a great valuable addition to missile capability for tank warfare. With this, the technology development and successful demonstration has been completed and the system is now ready for end user evaluation trials leading to induction into the Indian Army.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised the Defense Research Development Organization and the Army for the successful trials of the system and described it as an important step towards achieving self-reliance in advanced technology-based defense system development.

DRDO Chairman Sameer V Kamat also congratulated the teams associated with the trial.
