Thane: Samajwadi Party's former Bhiwandi MLA Raees Shaikh on Sunday said he has withdrawn his resignation on the advice of his supporters.
Sheikh had on Saturday announced that he was resigning from the Maharashtra Assembly in protest against the failure of the SP state leadership to address his grievances. Shaikh had said that he has sent his resignation to Maharashtra SP President Abu Azmi.
However, he did not say at that time whether he had also sent his resignation to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.
"I have withdrawn my resignation. Party workers were insisting that I withdraw my resignation," Shaikh said on Sunday.
After the news of his resignation spread, Sheikh addressed a huge crowd of supporters in Bhiwandi on Saturday night.
He had said that there is a need to save the party from divisive forces, and also said that some leaders are spreading discord for their own selfish reasons.
