KARACHI: A goods train carrying chemicals from the Iranian border town of Tafta to Pakistan derailed in the restive Balochistan province, prompting authorities to suspend rail operations between the two countries.

This accident happened on Saturday near Tojgi station in Balochistan.

Speaking to reporters, Pakistan Railways spokesperson Amir Baloch said, "The derailment occurred about 70 kilometers away from Taftan and we are not ruling out a terrorist attack."

The derailment of a goods train carrying phosphorus and other chemicals from Iran to Pakistan caused extensive damage to the locomotive, staff race coach and some other wagons laden with goods.

The accident occurred just a day after the deadly terror attack on the Noshaq Highway in the province on Friday night, when terrorists abducted nine laborers from Punjab province from a passenger bus and took them to the mountains before brutally killing them.

Before taking the workers away and killing them, the criminals identified them by their national identity cards. Two other people driving a private vehicle were also shot and died on the highway.

The militants also damaged a railway track near Noshki. Baloch Sai restoration work had not yet started as Railway Staff Engineers were ready after cordoning off the area.
