New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday rejected the plea of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the excise scam case, in which he had sought more time with his lawyers.

Special judge for CBI and ED cases Kaveri Baweja rejected the application saying there was no sufficient ground to grant the relief.

The ED had opposed Kejriwal's application saying that he cannot be given the privilege merely because he wants to run the government from inside the jail.

Kejriwal's lawyer told the judge that he had several cases pending against the politician and one hour a week was inadequate to understand and instruct a person.

“This is the most basic legal right I am asking to see my lawyer.Sanja Singh was allowed three sittings when he had only five or eight cases,” said the lawyer.

The ED has opposed Kejriwal's prayer for five meetings with his lawyers every week, saying it is against the jail manual.

The central probe agency told the court that Kejriwal had already been allowed to have two meetings with his lawyers instead of one, which is the normal practice.

It alleged that legal interviews were being misused by Kejriwal for purposes other than consultation.

Kejriwal has issued some instructions on matters related to governance from behind bars. His Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that he will run the government from jail.

The AAP leader had filed the application claiming that two meetings every week with his lawyers as allowed by the court were not enough as he was facing multiple cases in different states and he needed more time for consultation. was required.

On April 1, the court had sent Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15 in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise duty policy scam.

The ED has accused the AAP leader of being involved in the entire conspiracy of the Delhi liquor scam, drafting and implementing the policy, accepting bribes and ultimately using part of the proceeds of crime generated from the scheduled crime in the campaign for the Goa Assembly elections. ..
