Mumbai: An empty Harbor Line local train derailed near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus here on Wednesday afternoon, the second such incident at the same location in three days, resulting in delay in services on the CSMT-Panwe section, causing inconvenience to passengers. .
Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Neela said no one was injured in the incident that occurred just outside CSMT around 4.1 pm when the operation of the rake was being tested at a crossover point.
Another official said that when the train was about to enter CSMT on platform number 2, two wheels of the motorman's coach derailed.
It is noteworthy that a local train of Harbor Line had derailed at this same place on Monday. No one was injured but the incident affected traffic for hours.A Central Railway spokesperson said the derailed coach was brought back on track two hours later at 6.25 pm with the help of a road accident relief train (Road ART brought from Kurla).
He said services on platforms one and two of the Harbor Line were restored at 7.41 pm after the tracks were declared safe.
According to Central Railways, they operated local train services from platform number 3 of CSMT to reduce crowding.
However, passengers claimed that the trains were running very late and were overcrowded. There was a crowd on the platform of Harbor Line section also.I make a regular practice of conducting trial runs after completion of fixing defects," Neela said.
He told that the trial was conducted at the turnout at a speed of 15 km per hour.
According to Neela, before the test, a two-hour block was conducted between 2 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday night and after completing some maintenance work earlier in the day.
Since it was a public holiday due to Maharashtra Day, the block was taken as Central Railway had enough space to operate local trains from platform number 3 of CSMT, he said.A total of 14 services were canceled till evening.
