New Delhi: Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot on Wednesday said double shifts by bus drivers will be stopped at any cost and breath analyzer tests will be conducted to prevent drunk driving to avoid bus accidents.
Addressing a press conference, Gehlot said that in the last few days, there have been some bus accidents, including fatal accidents, and he has taken it seriously and meetings were held on bus safety measures.
He said, "Some drivers are doing multiple duties, which leads to fatigue. All drivers of Delhi government buses will have an Aadhar-based duty chart. A database is being created. Double shifts will be avoided by the drivers at any cost. But it will be stopped."
He said that drunk driving will be banned through breath analyzer test and medical checkup of all drivers will be done in Delhi government hospitals only.
He said refresher courses would be made mandatory for bus drivers on a regular basis.
Last month, a woman was killed and 34 others were injured when a DTC bus rammed into a pillar near Shivaji Park metro station in west Delhi. Due to this, an auto rickshaw also collided from behind, due to which the people traveling in it were injured.
After the incident, Gehlot had given instructions to investigate such accidents.
Gehlot said that the investigation report of the transport department is awaited.
