Mumbai: The Customs department has seized diamonds hidden in noodles packets and gold hidden in body parts and luggage of passengers, worth a total of Rs 6.46 crore, at the Mumbai airport, an official said.



Four passengers were arrested after over 6.815 kg of gold worth Rs 4.44 crore and diamonds worth Rs 2.02 crore were seized over the weekend, Customs officials said in a release late on Monday.

An Indian national traveling from Mumbai to Bangkok was stopped and found to be smuggling diamonds hidden in a packet of noodles inside his trolley bag.

The officer said the passenger was later arrested.

He said a foreign national traveling from Colombo to Mumbai was stopped and she was carrying gold bars and a cut piece of gold hidden inside her undergarments, the total weight of which was 321 grams.



Apart from this, 10 Indian nationals traveling two each from Dubai and Abu Dhabi and one each from Bahrain, Doha, Riyadh, Muscat, Bangkok and Singapore were also stopped and found with 6.199 kg of gold, worth Rs 4.04 crore. Was Rs. in the rectum, on the body and inside luggage,” the release said, without giving further details.

Three of them were later arrested, it said.
