According to the Office of the MCD Secretary, the Ordinary April (2024) meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11 am at Aruna Asaf Ali Auditorium, A-Block, 4th Floor, Dr. Shyama Prasa. Mukherjee Civic Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, New Delhi.
An order issued on Wednesday said, “Election of mayor and deputy mayor will also be held in this meeting of the corporation.”
The 250-member MCD House wields significant influence in Delhi's political landscape. Currently, AAP has a majority with 134 councillors, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 104 seats, with the support of an independent councillor, taking its tally to 105.
Congress is lagging behind with nine seats, while the remaining members include two independent councillors.
Mayor Shelly Oberoi, Deputy Mayor Aale Iqbal and House leader Mukesh Goyal currently hold key positions in the MCD.
The question in everyone's mind is whether AAP leader Shaili Oberoi will continue as mayor or who will be the face of AAP this time.
This political fight is the first major election incident after the arrest of AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the ED in the excise policy case.
