New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday said its previous government in Rajasthan passed a series of visionary laws to meaningfully improve the quality of life of thousands of people in the state and asked why the current BJP government was rolling back pro-people schemes. Is.

Ramesh asked in a post, "Why is the BJP government rolling back the pro-people schemes of the Congress? Does the Prime Minister give priority to his business friends over the rural communities of Rajasthan? Why has the ERCP not been designated a national project yet? Elaborating on what he said was a "jumla statement", Ramesh said that when the Congress was in power in Rajasthan, it passed a series of visionary laws that improved the quality of life of thousands of people in the state. "Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Act, adding 25 additional days over and above the sanctioned 100 days for MNREGA (Rural), Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme Act which guarantees 100 days of employment to families living in urban areas, Rajasthan Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare Act), and the Right to Health Act, which provided universal health coverage – all these schemes provided vital protection to vulnerable populations,” he said."Instead of implementing these acts, we are seeing a breakdown in governance since the BJP comes to power in December 2023," the Congress leader alleged. He claimed that at least 15.5 lakh pensioners in Rajasthan has not received his pension since January this year due to "verification" issues.
Ramesh said the government tried to reduce health coverage from Rs 25 lakh under Congress's Chiranjeevi scheme to just Rs 5 lakh under BJP's Ayush Bharat.
He asked, "In its retaliation, why is the BJP government rolling back the pro-people schemes of the Congress? Does PM Modi's vision include any protection for the vulnerable population in Rajasthan?" Rajasthan's oran is under threat after a controversial amendment to the Forest Conservation Act (FCA) was passed in 2023.He said, "Orans are community forests that form an important part of community life in Rajasthan. Traditionally considered sacred, these forests are protected and managed by rural communities and provide a range of activities ranging from grazing animals to hosting social events and festivals. Till is used for everything."
He said that under the old FCA, any land that satisfied the dictionary definition of forests came under the Act and the amended FCA aims to repeal this much-maligned definition. Now, Ramesh said, it will apply only to those forests which have been declared or notified as forests and which are recorded in the government records on or after October 25, 1980. He said, "Although Oran was earlier protected under the Act, were protected, but the amended law does not apply to them.They are now in danger of destruction as revenue records have marked them as wasteland, which can easily be used for development projects."
"Although the BJP government has recently notified Oran as a 'Deemed Forest', locals say this is quite counter-productive - not only will communities be prevented from accessing and protecting Oran, the notification will render them non- It does not stop even profitable companies from giving - Ramesh asked, why has the BJP government so shamelessly snatched away the protection from the sacred groves of Rajasthan.
He also asked why the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) has been stuck for so long. The Congress leader said, “Villages in Rajasthan are struggling to meet their basic water needs and women are struggling to get water. One has to walk several kilometers for this.,
He said, on July 7, 2018 and October 6, 2018, PM Modi had promised the people of Rajasthan that the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) would be given the status of national project.
He said this designation would have enabled the Center to bear 90 per cent of the funding cost. Ramesh said that after the Congress came to power in 2018, then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wrote letters to the PM six times requesting him to fulfill his promise. So that this essential infrastructure project can start.
"Despite the Prime Minister's promises, the BJP not only refused to grant national project status but also refused to respond to any letter from Mr Gehlot. Now, the BJP government, at huge cost to the state exchequer, This project has been hastily moved forward before the elections." he alleged.
