Congress candidate from Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Genibe Thakor is seeking financial support from the people of the area for her election campaign expenses.

In the 2012 state assembly elections, veteran BJP leader Shankar Choudhary defeated Jenniben Thakor from the Vav seat by a margin of about 12,000 votes.



Thakor had defeated Chaudhary in the 2017 assembly elections.

He won his second election in 2022 by defeating BJP's Swaroopji Thakor.Jenniben Thakor had in 2019 supported an order issued by the elders of her community of 1 village in Banaskantha district, which banned unmarried young women in inter-caste marriages from carrying mobile phones.

The BJP has won the Banaskantha seat three consecutive times, including in the 2013 by-election and in 1998 and 1999.

Congress won this seat in 1996, 2004 and 2009.
