Mullanpur: The success of unknown players in the ongoing Indian Premier League is down to self-confidence and the rigors of domestic cricket, said Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh, who made another statement while batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad here.
Chasing 183 to win, Shashank scored an unbeaten 46 off 25 balls and along with Ashutosh Sharma (33 off 1 ball) achieved another big feat for PBKS, but the team missed out by just two runs on Tuesday. Went.
Shashank's courageous innings of 61 not out helped PBKS secure a thrilling three-wicket win against Gujarat Titans in a high-scoring match on April 4.
Despite the defeat, Shashank received praise from all sides for showing confidence in his abilities.
“The only thing is self-confidence.The way we play domestic cricket. Like you see Nitish (Reddy) of SRH here. He usually scores and takes wickets in white-ball and red-ball cricket (in domestic competitions)." Shashank is understanding the mantra behind his and many youngsters' performances in the ongoing edition of the IPL.
Young Reddy scored a crucial 64 off 37 balls, helping Sunrisers Hyderabad reach a challenging score of 182/9.Apart from Reddy and Shashank, some lesser-known cricketers like PBKS's Ashutosh Sharma and Kolkata Knight Riders' Angkris Raghuvanshi have also changed the fortunes of their respective sides in the ongoing IPL.
Shashank said that the success of IPL is largely linked to the progress of domestic cricket.
"The way we play in domestic cricket. Nitish and Ashutosh have done well in Mushtaq Ali, Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy, also for Angrish," Shashank said during the post-match press conference.
“You can say these players are unknown, but they are well-known players in the domestic circuit. He performed well in the domestic circuit and his performance in the IPL is the result of that (hard work). You need to continue your domestic performance here. Cricket is a game of self-confidence at this level," he said.
Shashank looked quite disappointed after the defeat.
“We lost the match by two runs but the saddest thing is losing the match because we play to win.Defeat is defeat whether it is by two or two runs. I have to give credit to Ashutosh for turning the match around. Shashank said, he batted in the last over, we believed till the second-last ball that it was possible.
"We did a lot of match simulations in the camp before the IPL. We (Ashutosh and I) used to shuffle between 5 and 6 in the batting order. We were given many scenarios like 60 or 70 in five overs and we used to chase that target many times. So we always had confidence.,
SRH batsman Abdul Samad praised Nitish as player of the match for his efforts with both bat and ball. The 20-year-old player also took the important wicket of Jitesh Sharma after scoring a half-century.
Samad said, "Last year Nitish played traditional shots but this year he is completely different. He has prepared well. Everyone had faith in him and that is why he was promoted.,
Asked about lesser-known players who have performed impressively, Samad said, "It's the first season for them, so they have nothing to lose and they are eager to perform. They look very hungry."
