Imposing a fine of Rs 200,000 on Thursday, a division bench of Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Prosenjit Biswas directed the WBMSC officials to deposit the amount with the Legal Services Department of the Calcutta High Court.
The court also directed the WBMSC authorities to complete the recruitment process for 3,000 vacancies within the next three months.
Recall that the preliminary examination for recruitment of non-teaching staff in Group-D category for Madrasas in the state was held in 2010 and the written examination in 2011.
However, in the last 13 years the results were not declared and no recruitment was done.
Some candidates who appeared in the examination approached the Calcutta High Court demanding immediate publication of the result.
In 2019, a single-judge bench of Justice Rajashekhar Mantha of the Calcutta High Court ordered that the vacant posts should be filled within 14 days.
However, WBMSC officials challenged the order in the division bench.
Although the division bench upheld the single-judge order, the WBMSC sought extension on various grounds and did not declare the result.
Finally, on Thursday, the Division Bench made it clear that the recruitment process will have to be completed within the next three months and no further extension will be given.
This penalty has been imposed for not completing the recruitment process within the time limit set by the court.
