NEW DELHI: Seeking to connect with the people of Tamil Nadu, where his party is trying to establish a foothold, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that the BJP will work towards creating Thiruvalluvar cultural centers across the world.

Releasing the BJP's manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, Modi said, "We will create Thiruvalluvar cultural centers across the world. Tamil, the oldest language in the world, is our pride. The BJP will make every possible effort to increase the global prestige of the Tamil language." ,

Thiruvalluvar was a famous Tamil poet and philosopher. The Prime Minister had earlier asked the youth to read Thiruvalluvar's book "Kural", a famous Tamil text that imparts knowledge on morality and ethics in various aspects of life.

For the BJP, Tamil Nadu is an unconquerable frontier along with neighboring Kerala, which sends 20 MPs to the Lok Sabha.

Voting will be held in the first two phases of general elections in both the states, on April 19 and 26.

The five southern states Tamil Nadu (39 seats), Karnataka (28), Andhra Pradesh (25), Kerala (20), Telangana (17) and Union Territory Puducherry (1) together have 130 seats.

The BJP won only 29 seats in the 2019 general elections, of which 25 were from Karnataka alone and four from Telangana.

The party's account was not empty at all on 85 seats in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

The Prime Minister has made more than half a dozen visits to Tamil Nadu as the BJP aims for a big win in the Lok Sabha elections where it has set a target of winning over 400 seats for the ruling NDA alliance.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said in an interview that the southern state would make a big contribution in achieving the NDA's target of more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
