The first revolves around the 'old guard versus fresh blood' discourse that has been a topic of discussion within the ruling party for some time now.
Ghosh was a staunch supporter of gradually replacing the 'old guard' with 'fresh blood', an idea floated by Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
However, the idea was largely rejected by Chief Minister Mamat Banerjee, promoted by her old-time allies such as Trinamool state president Subrata Bakshi and Minister of State and Mayor of Kolkata, Firhad Hakim.
On Wednesday, the ruling party removed Ghosh from the post of state general secretary after he praised BJP candidate from Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency Tapas Roy while sharing the stage with the BJ leader for a blood donation programme. Ghosh's name was also removed from the party's list of star campaigners on Thursday.Following the developments, there is speculation that a deliberate attempt is being made to show serious 'infighting' in the Trinamool Congress to appease the opposition candidates, especially the BJP candidates including Roy.
While the second theory has fewer followers, Ghosh's repeated attacks against Trinamool on the issue of crores of rupees cash for school jobs in the state may be a cause for concern for the party.
“Some of the masterminds behind the case are still to be sent to jail. I personally believe that the chief minister was not properly briefed,” Ghosh said.
However, opposition leaders are making fun of this entire incident.
Former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that such sentiments are meaningless at this stage.“If Ghosh feels that the Chief Minister has not been properly briefed, he could have updated him. Dilip Ghosh said, he could have informed the truth to central agencies like CBI and ED.
CPI-M Rajya Sabha member Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said Kunal Ghosh's claim that the Chief Minister was not properly informed was not true.
“Even in this situation, he is trying to save the Chief Minister. Hi comments do not deserve any importance,” Bhattacharya said.
