RIYADH (Saudi Arabia): Ajitesh Sandhu shot a brilliant 5-under 66 to finish tied 14th, the best among Indian golfers, on the final day of the USD 1 million Saudi Open here on Sunday.

It was a creditable finish for Sandhu who had started the season on a Medica exemption.

Other Indians in the field were: Shiv Kapoor (67) tied 37th and Gaganji Bhullar (71) tied 49th, while the remaining eight Indians missed the cut.

John Cattlin completed the first back-to-back wins on the Asian Tour in five years.

He shot a five-under-par 66 in the final round to finish at 24-under and win by seven shots from Australian Wade Ormsby.

Ormsby carded his best performance of 64 at Riyadh Golf Club here since winning the International Series Thailand in March last year.

America's Peter Uihlein shot 63 to finish third, nine points behind the champion, while Thailand's Kiradek Phiburnrat shot 67.

Catlin, who won the Macau International Series last month, also almost made history on the Asian Tour.

He came very close to becoming the first player to complete 72 holes bogey-free, but he missed a seven-foot par putt on 14, much to the disappointment of everyone present.

He etched his name in the Asian Tour history books by becoming the first player to score 59 in the third round in Macau last month.

The win here earned him a check for US$180,000, moving him ahead of Spaniard David Puig at the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

Puig finished fifth with a score of 67, 10 behind Catlin. OR AYG UNG
