Thane, Maharashtra Police in Thane district have arrested three people who were allegedly planning to rob pedestrians on a highway and seized a pistol and a knife from their possession. An official provided this information on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team found five people engaged in discussion near Talawali Naka in Bhiwandi area on Tuesday morning.
It is suspected that they were planning a highway robbery, said the Nizampura police station officer.
Three of them were captured while two managed to escape, he said.
The police seized a country-made pistol, an air gun, a big knife, chilli powder and a rope from their possession, the officer said.
The arrested accused, aged between 19 and 26, were booked under sections 399 (preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembly for the purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code as well as provisions of the Arms Act. Maharashtra Police Act, he said.
