- Traditional fair celebrating Sri Vithappa deity with rituals, music, and local cuisine.
The Sri Vithappa fair is a significant event held in the village of Vithappa to honor the Vithappa god. It was first organized two centuries ago and has since become an annual tradition, usually taking place in September or October, specifically on the fourteenth and fifteenth days of Ashwija month. Over time, the number of worshippers has grown exponentially. During the festivities, a beautifully adorned tableau of the deity, adorned with cloth, banana leaves, and flowers, is paraded through the village streets. This procession is accompanied by a group of 60 drummers selected from various parts of the state. The fair is associated with various rituals. Some devotees believe that offering milk to the deity causes it to miraculously transform into curd. Another notable aspect of the fair is a person from Chunchanoor village collecting grains from a bag kept in the temple throughout the event. It is believed that sowing these grains in farmland would result in a bountiful harvest that year.
